They lighten your life

Kids. Sitting in the living room at my aunt's, i'm watching my cousins play. They dance, they laugh, they scream and cry, they pull each other's t-shirt and jump around. I feel so old right now. God knows i miss those days. It's not simply the dancing and moving around without feeling ridiculous or childish that i miss. I miss this « I-simply-don't-care » attitude. In awful situatons, kids are always playing and jumping around. While adults are crying and getting mad at each-others, kids are giving this exagerated teeth-showing smile saying: « Look, look how much i'm having fun! Play with me. » How many times kids wanted to play and automaticaly i said: « Not in the mood. Leave me alone. Later . » Let me tell you something: THAT'S CRUEL. That's how kids learn how to be terrible and boring grown-ups, in the yelling and the graveness of irritated faces with issue-full minds. We give them empty looks, because they're just kids. And that's just how they grow.

I feel like dancing with them. They are awesome. And smart. Sometimes, they just seem to understand so much more than we do. They have this focused and serious look sometimes. That's when i surprise myself talking to them as if they were adults. Talking about some issues, trying to explain them what's a war, how the arabo-israeli conflict began or how to write poetry.

Poetry... I'm giving lessons to my cousin about it. When you give kids a chance to do something as amazing as writing, they can blow your mind. My cousin never wrote for pleasure, except for school and she discovered how a good writer she can be. That's what Beauty is about. Giving knowledge and receiving Beauty in return. And what I reveived from this 14 years old kid is so valuable. That's also how they grow. With love, with trust in their abilities and in their talent, whatever it is. If my child wants to be a fire-blower or a burlesque-dancer, i'll give them all the opportunities they need to know more about it and be the best while doing it.

Kids. They made my day today, as they do everyday since i'm in Nouakchott.
